Out of this World
Named after the ultimate-in-cool and nightclub-knowledge character from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", Zaphod Beeblebrox has been at the forefront of live music in Ottawa for over ten years. A haven for Ottawa's dynamic mix of independent acts and a frequent tour stop for international rockers, Zaphod's stage leans towards alternative/indie acts, but also features world-beat, industrial and Celtic acts from time to time. The Rolling Stones shot their "Streets Of Love" video at this legendary nightclub and performers such as Broken Social Scene, Metric, Jeff Buckley, Ben Harper, Nickelback, Ani Difranco, Great Big Sea, The Stereophonics, Alanis Morissette, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Pilate and numerous others first gained credibility in Ottawa at Zaphod's.

Creature Canteena
The place is quite large and features a large dance floor/mosh pit, tables, stools and various nooks and crannies to sit in. There's a big-screen, projection TV on the back wall - usually tuned to the 'game' of the season or a movie - a pinball machine, and plenty of room for just hanging out. The bar itself is on an elevated, plush-carpeted area surrounded by brass railings and has a sort of strip-joint feel to it. They have a large selection of beer on tap, ranging from domestic to imported to micro-brew and it's all very reasonably priced.

Like the Movie “Singles”
The crowd can vary greatly, depending on what type of act is playing, but Zaphod's regulars are typically laid-back, "alternative" folks at the height of "whatever". The servers and bartenders are extremely friendly and the soundman is one of the best in the biz. All in all, for live music, dancing, good times and drinks, Zaphod's is out of this world.
