To be sure, its understated appearance contrasts sharply with the array of savoury goods on offer. Sticky jasmine rice complements delicious deep-fried shrimp and pork spring rolls. Sauces range from the spicy sambal to sweet and sour nuoc cham to the peanut dipping sauce; test them out over a broken rice dish or vermicelli. Of particular note is the pho soup; rice noodles and thin cuts of beef in an aromatic broth, served alongside a plate of lime wedges, basil, bean sprout and hot peppers – not for the sensitive palate. Also delicious is the rich and sumptuous café sua da, a Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk, served over ice.
Vietnam Noodle House is large and can accommodate group dining quite comfortably. Its newly renovated look and cafeteria style layout also make it an ideal location for a casual date. Be sure to look out for the sandwich board outside 706 Somerset, as it’s your only indicator as to where this little place is.
