Profile Last Updated: January 08, 2009
Owned and operated by the husband and wife team of Mr. and Mrs. Nguyin – two ex-patriots from Vietnam who now call Ottawa their home – the up-and-coming Sweet Art Restaurant on Dalhousie Street is as authentic a taste of Vietnamese cuisine as Ottawa area diners are ever likely to find. Opening in 2003 to stellar reviews, the restaurant attracts a large following of government employees during the lunch rush hour, as well as curious gourmands from around the city looking for something a little out of the ordinary.
Tasty Delights
Sweet art specializes in a wide variety of traditional Vietnamese delicacies like pho (rice noodles served with beef or chicken), crab and corn soup, grilled meats and seafood, not to mention one of the best hot n’ sour soups in Ottawa. This little restaurant is also well known for preparing some of the best spring rolls in town, filled with a fresh assortment of vegetables, shrimp and pork. The hot dishes are generally accompanied by side orders of sauces, sweet or spicy, which allows you to sample and mix different tastes.
World Class Pastries
If the food at Sweet Art undoubtedly lives up to its reputation, you have yet to hear about their mouthwatering homemade pastries. While Mr. Nguyin takes care of most of the menu, his wife – a pastry chef at the Ottawa Westin Hotel – prepares a vast array of delicious international pastries that can be enjoyed as a dessert following your meal or a special treat to bring back home.
