This Gatineau restaurant features crisp white tablecloths, dark wooden chairs and 10-foot ceilings that are warmed by the bright daylight that enters through the large windows. In the evening, ceramic chandeliers imitate the moon and cast a golden glow on the many patrons. Beige walls are adorned by brightly coloured paintings purchased in Vietnam, and each piece depicts a different woman engaged in a state of repose. Upstairs, traditionalists can muse in the renowned cigar lounge where pictures, books, matches and other cigar paraphernalia are displayed and enjoyed.
French Fare
After admiring the scenery, patrons can sit down to the restaurant’s decadent appetizer of poutine made with beef tenderloin, brie cheese and port sauce. Or indulge in the varied preparations of chicken, pork, lamb, duck, bison, salmon, beef tartar, pastas, steaks, surf and turf, or smoked salmon (smoked on the premises!). Other delights include salads, foie gras and duck confit.
Stars, Sweets and Spirits
Any night of the week, guests might rub shoulders with celebrities after a premiere at a local French movie theatre. On Tuesdays and Fridays, Aurel LeCompte, a pianist who has tickled the ivories with entertainment greats like Louis Armstrong and Liberace, will add a little magic to your evening with his musical serenades. Meanwhile, to tickle your palate, St. Estephe also presents a few select wines directly from the city of St-Estèphe in France. And for the final culinary romance, St. Estephe offers crème brûlée, assorted pastries and petit pot de chocolat, a decadent mousse of rich chocolate and Grand Marnier.
