Situated in an old white house in the heart of the village, facing the river, Soupcon encompasses just 400 square feet, and that includes both the kitchen and the dining room, which seats just 14 people. Thankfully, in the summer months there is an outdoor patio that seats 22 more diners. The kitchen is in full view of those partaking in the restaurant’s Asian-inspired cuisine and the tables. The art hanging on the walls is by local artists from Ottawa and Gatineau, and changes monthly.
Far East Eats
The menu, which changes occasionally, is short and heavily influenced by the cuisines of Asia, with plenty of vegetarian options. Begin with the daily soup or perhaps a springy mixed green salad with crispy wontons. Crisp fried spring rolls or soft rice-paper rolls make an excellent appetizer for sharing (or not). For mains you can choose Phad Thai, or a Thai Green Curry veggie bowl, or perhaps a stir-fry. Desserts are mouth-watering choices like, maple crème brûlée or five-spice chocolate cake.
Feeding the locals, locally
Soupcon's chef seeks out meats and produce grown and raised locally, then tailors the menu to fit with those ingredients. A local sommelier writes the wine list, focusing on North American vintages to cut down on the carbon emissions associated with importing wines from around the globe.
