Bringing Communities Together
Since its much-anticipated opening in 1998, Ottawa’s JCC has turned an otherwise quiet suburban neighbourhood into a beehive of activity. It attracts crowds from both its immediate and surrounding area. Likewise, it is popular with both members of the Jewish community and the wider public.

A Fitness Club, A Cultural Centre and Much More
The JCC is spread out in a large, well-designed complex of buildings in Ottawa’s west end. Its appeal lies in the richness of its offerings. Members and guests can keep fit in the state-of-the-art fitness rooms, take a dip in one of two swimming pools (indoor and outdoor), play a game of squash, surf the internet, eat some tasty kosher food or browse one of the city’s largest Jewish libraries—all under one roof. And while the fitness centre, pools and squash courts remain prime attractions, the frequent cultural events at the JCC are also very popular. People flock here for concerts, theatre, film screenings and art exhibits.

Accessible to All
As the name implies, the JCC was built to serve the needs of the Jewish community. This doesn’t mean, however, that the centre doesn’t welcome people from all walks of life. In fact, it’s quite a diverse place, and is an especially friendly environment for the elderly and people with disabilities: there is wheelchair access in the changing rooms, elevators, and swimming pools.

Custom Membership Plans
The JCC has flexible membership plans for adults, students, seniors and families, and even offers a “snowbird” plan for seniors who head south when the mercury drops. But don’t worry about being accosted by hyperactive fitness consultants here. The JCC does seek new members, but not aggressively like some health clubs do. They’re content with slow, steady growth and good community spirit.
