The History
Established in 1882 by Charles Scrim, the florist shop was taken over by his 16-year-old daughter when he passed away. Miss Scrim was a fixture in the city and continued to oversee the shop until her death at age 93. Take a look at historical photos of the 1939 Royal Tour by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth when they stopped in Ottawa to visit Prime Minister MacKenzie King. Notice the flowers?
Take A Look
Scrim’s Florist has been providing floral services for many years, ranging from Royal visits to conventions and weddings. It has been offering the most beautiful flowers and bouquets for around 125 years. The manager will be pleased to open up his photo albums and show you everything from simple arrangements to masterpieces, from opulent and notable events marking the store’s history.
A New Age
Today, Scrim’s Florist services reflect a new age; the front window is the only advertisement they need. Mirrors and glass reflect the beautiful arrangements and gift ideas on display in the spacious, fragrant store. Customers include business travelers from the nearby apartment inns and hotels, Ottawa natives who have seen their beautiful displays or heard of them from others, and, of course, the long-timers who knew the Scrims or know the current owner, who has worked there for many decades.
