Cutting Edge Technology in a World-Class Facility
A visit to the historic Royal Canadian Mint in downtown Ottawa will shed new light on coin currency and how it is made. But the Ottawa location of the Royal Canadian Mint does much more than produce high quality currency using the latest technology. In fact, the production of most coin currency takes place at the Mint's Winnipeg location, leaving Ottawa's Mint to create and produce a variety of specialty collection coins and other customized products. With a reputation as one of the largest and most complex minting facilities in operation today, the Royal Canadian Mint is committed to ongoing research and development to remain in the forefront of the minting industry.

A Matter of National Pride
Set in a beautiful castle-like building behind an imposing spiked fence, the Royal Canadian Mint is a long-time institution in the city, the same premises on which the Mint was founded in 1908. As Canada developed into a united and industrialized country in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, governments and businesses recognized the need to produce a federal currency to replace the jumble of American and European currencies in use.

Luxurious and Unique Products
Visit the mint's boutique and choose from a variety of fine jewelry, medals, collector coins, and other quality-crafted products. Watches with coin designs are a favorite at the mint, as well as coins that have been designed by Canadians as part of a national contest, which explored different facets of Canadian national pride. Although not on display for sale in the boutique, the Mint also offers a gold, silver, platinum bullion coins to investors and assay services, which are used to analyze some of the world's most precious metals.
