Are you an Antiques Roadshow buff? Love or want to discover more about the old city of Nepean? Just fascinated with history? The Nepean Museum in Ottawa's west end is a charming afternoon getaway from the chaotic contemporary world of Ottawa life. Kids can discover the past and adults can remember all those inherited tales learned on their grandparent's knee.
Morsels of Memories
Did you know that Titanic victim Charles Melville Hays built the famous Chateau Laurier? The Silver Springs Farmhouse, a Bells Corners landmark built in 1867, one of the three surviving buildings of the Great Carleton Fire of 1870 and now owned by the NCC, is a Gothic-style home that was once a headquarters for a 600-acre pioneer farm. These little known facts are two of many in the Nepean Museum.
Antique Activities
The Nepean Museum hosts workshops, meetings and birthday parties, offers great exhibits and travelling displays, sells city mementos, has a great volunteer service working on many current projects and outreach kits for educational purposes, a resource library featuring local history, and kids projects. They are constantly expanding their fount of knowledge and want very much to share it.
