The ski centre at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility at Mooney’s Bay has five kilometres of groomed trails for both classic and skate (freestyle) skiing techniques. If skiing after dark fits your schedule best, you will love the dedicated trail lighting that illuminates the path until late in the evening! The centre includes a ski school that caters to all ages and abilities. Ski facilities normally operate from mid-December to early March. There are indoor changing rooms and waxing benches during official hours, as well as washrooms and free parking. In addition, there is a large city-approved sledding hill right next to the centre and hot chocolate is often available.
Welcome Spring on Two Wheels
Ottawa is a city of bike paths and walkways and one of the most popular routes can take you from the downtown core to Mooney’s Bay. Take the Colonel By Drive bike path that begins at the Rideau Centre and follow it all the way to Hog's Back. Enjoy the view of the mini falls then out Riverside Drive to Mooney’s Bay. It’s a great way to enjoy a beautiful spring morning. Bring a lunch and enjoy it at one of the many picnic tables dotted along the beach.
Hot Spot to Cool Down
Supervised swimming is available at Mooney’s Bay beach; lie in the sun until you bake and then dip in to cool off. Water quality is checked regularly and beaches may occasionally be closed for a brief period, usually after heavy rainfall. For conditions call 613-244-5678. Mooney’s Bay beach is also a beach volleyball dream with a long, wide sandy beach that has volleyball nets and balls available to rent. It is also home to the HOPE Volleyball Beachfest that combines 25,000 recreational volleyball players and spectators with live rock entertainment and a beer garden to create the summer’s hottest party.
Enjoy the Fall
Ottawa is a great place to enjoy the fall season with spectacular colours, warm days and cool evenings. It’s also a great time to enjoy Mooney’s Bay. Go for the afternoon and play Frisbee, football or soccer in the sand or in the surrounding grassy areas. Bring a picnic lunch or get a hotdog from the snack stand. Or just go for a walk and remember the hot summer sun before the days grow too short and the nights too cold.
Price: A nominal fee is charged in the winter to skiers coming to use the trails.
