A turn-of-the-century farmhouse is home to one of the most respected French cuisine restaurants in the National Capital Region. Located in Old Chelsea, the restaurant first opened its rusty-coloured doors in 1978, and it has been pleasing customers ever since. L'Orée du Bois is a family business with roots in Châteaudun, a small town in the Loire Valley and Caen, Normandy. These influences can be found—and tasted—throughout the menu and its multifaceted decor.
Classics with Creativity
And then there is the menu, and just about everything on it. There is no paean to trendiness here, and conversely no strict adherence to a handful of classics that can get somewhat boring over time. Instead, the menu shows real innovation and creativity, a true adventure for the customer. This is complemented further by L'Orée du Bois's participation in the Québec Regional Cuisine tradition which privileges products from the region. You will enjoy home-grown herbs (from an indoor hydroponic garden), smoked fish, traditional recipe chocolates and original vinegars and oils.
Terroir Treats
L'Orée du Bois's table d'hôte is a delicious deal. Try the popular braised chicken from the Chapons des Monts farm with blueberry sauce or a mixed pasta dish served with poultry tenderloins, scallops, shrimps, roasted garlic, three types of basil and a parmesan cheese sauce. The regular menu also features a wide variety of mixed salads and lesser known appetizers such as duckling pâté and fricassé of snails with mushrooms, smoked bacon and parsley sauce. Main courses such a braised Lac Brôme duckling with green peppercorn and black pepper sauce or a Gaspésie seafood and fish casserole provide finishing touches for a delectable night out in the Outaouais. Call for a reservation today and experience haute cuisine in classic country style.
