Since 1988, the Kanata Leisure Centre has been a hub of athletic activity for the residents of west Ottawa. Operated originally by the city of Kanata, it was taken over by the new city of Ottawa in 2000. The Kanata Leisure Centre houses a wave pool (which is also used as a regular pool), kiddie pool, whirlpool and water slide. The pool schedule is designed to accommodate swimmers of varying ages and abilities. This includes a relaxed leisure swim, adult lane swimming as well as accredited swimming lessons. There’s even a time slot dedicated to preschoolers. Land lovers can make use of the sauna, comprehensive fitness studio and aerobics hall. Exercise classes are offered too.
The centre’s pool facilities are open for daily swims from April until September. There are special swims scheduled during March Break, the Christmas holidays and the Thanksgiving and Easter long weekends. Patrons can use the facilities on a pay-per-use basis, or purchase memberships through the city of Ottawa. These range from comprehensive packages that allow access to all of the facilities to memberships for any of the centre’s individual services. Corporate and group memberships are available, too.
The centre can accommodate birthday parties of up to 100 people. Generally, booking a party gets you one hour in the pool and one hour in one of the centre’s halls. Every party booking includes food (usually pizza and birthday cake). The Kanata Leisure Centre is centrally located in the community and is easily accessible by car or bus.
