A Little History
IWSO was founded in 1998 in direct response to the need for services to immigrant women. It originally focused on public education, research, networking and development. In 1989, they developed a model for crisis counseling, support services and a language interpretation service. In 2008, they added a settlement and integration services. The organization exists to provide immigrant and visible minority women with the supports and tools to achieve their full potential.

What IVMWAA Believes
Racism is another form of violence against women. Anyone can work towards the goal of equality between men and women. Violence against women and children must end. Women have the right to be safe from harm. Assisting women means focusing on their immediate safety needs. Immigrant and visible minority women have rights and responsibilities in Canadian society. Social and community organizations need to be sensitive and inclusive with regards to the needs of immigrant and visible minority women. IVMWAA is accountable to the immigrant and visible minority women they serve.

At Your Service
