When North Americans think Italian food, they usually think pizza. In fact, the pizza has its origins in Naples and the Campania region, while other areas of Italy have their own traditional cuisine. Restaurant Fiorentina is unusual among Italian restaurants in Canada in that it does not actually serve pizza. Instead it concentrates on Florentine cuisine - dishes originating in the historic city of Florence.
Menu Full of Meat
Florentine cuisine is heavy on the meat, and the bistecca alla Fiorentina, a huge t-bone steak, is famous in Italian cooking. This focus is reflected in Restaurant Fiorentina's menu. Highlights include the veal dishes, and a selection of specialty Italian sausages. For vegetarians, the meat-free pasta dishes are well worth trying. The wine list is extensive, with many great wines imported from Italy. To compliment your choice, the restaurant also stocks a range of artisan cheeses.
A Romantic Spot
The home of Restaurant Fiorentina is a beautiful building just outside downtown Hull. It's an excellent choice for a romantic meal. The terrace is great for al fresco dining in summertime, while the interior’s cosy feel easily puts you in the mood for love. Occasionally, the restaurant hosts live music from jazz and classical artists. Sylvie Desgroseilliers and Paul Deslauriers are among the French Canadian artists who have graced the stage.
