Charming Staff and Elegant Décor
El Meson is located in a historic, brick Victorian house in a beautiful, quiet neighbourhood of Vanier. The owner of El Mason has proudly been serving Spanish and Portuguese fare since 1987. One wall of the building displays a beautiful and intricate mural featuring memorable Ottawa politicians, regular patrons of the restaurant as well as the El Meson staff. The dining room is equally as lovely as the exterior, with artwork and pottery from Portugal decorating the walls and crisp, white tablecloths draping each table. El Meson is an excellent place for a romantic date, special occasion, business lunch or catching up with a friend.
Rare Cuisine
Iberian cuisine is a niche culinary genre and nobody understands it better than El Meson. On the menu you'll find appetizers such as fried calamari (Calamares a la Romana), shrimp in garlic sauce (Camarones A La Ajillo) and the Tapas Flamencas for one or two, which includes shrimp, squid, artichokes, chorizo and more. The soups are hearty and the salads light and freshly prepared. While waiting for the entrees, you'd be wise to sample El Meson's impressive cellar of 3,000 bottles of Spanish and Portuguese wines. The staff are happy to suggest a vintage pairing for your main dish, whether you order the chicken breast with garlic and wine sauce (Pollo Al Jillo), the veal sauteed in wine with chorizo and onions (Ternera Extremena) or the grilled filet mignon (Solomillo A La Plancha). Vegetarians with an appetite can order the specialty paella with only vegetables, and El Meson offers several seafood options as well.

El Meson has two meeting rooms upstairs that can be reserved separately or combined to make one larger room. There is a full service bar and staff can arrange the room to host a reception with a small dance floor as well.
