Now home to two art galleries and a theatre, the Centre Culturel du Vieux-Aylmer used to house the old Palais de Justice for the city of Aylmer. Known for presenting intimate shows, the theatre – also known as the La Basoche Room – plays host to several types of shows. The two gallery spaces often showcase unique pieces of artwork in a small, intimate setting.
The Theatre! What’s Happened to the Theatre?
The mission of the theatre is to make sure that the performances pay special attention to presenting events that promote the local, national and international culture. Shows range from musical performances showcasing various types of music – everything from folk, blues and world beats can be seen on this stage. The theatre sits 120 spectators and has also played host to theatre troops, stand-up comics and cabaret musicals. Anything and everything goes.
Take the Time to Stroll Around
Aside from the theatre, there are two small art galleries: l'Espace Pierre-Debain and the Lucie-Vigneault hall. Both areas showcase unique pieces of sculpture. The Espace Pierre Debain also showcases arts and crafts exhibits with an worldly touch. There are also occasionally visual arts exhibits, each with its own vernissage on the first day of the exposition. There are around six exhibits per year. The Lucie-Vigneault hall is located on the second floor and also frequently has vernissages for artwork and sculpture as well.
