The Big Picture
In a large three-storey timber building, complete with bright blue roof, is the largest public collection of skiing memorabilia in Canada. The Museum was founded in 1971 by a group of local ski enthusiasts who had over the years collected a wide range of artifacts relating to the sport of skiing.

The Objective
Their mandate was to preserve the heritage of skiing in Canada by cataloguing and storing the various documents, artifacts, photographs and memorabilia they had collected. They also accept new, important artifacts that have been donated to the museum over the last 30 years.

What You’ll Find
The museum houses both a permanent display covering the history of skiing dating back to over 4000 years and an educational exhibit on the history of Canadian skiing at the Olympics. Some of the famous Canadian skiers featured are Steve Podborski (1982 World Cup Champion), Nancy Greene (1967-1968 World Cup Champion), Ken Reed, Betsy Clifford (1970 World Cup Champion), “Jack Rabbit” Johanssen (the father of cross-country skiing) and Anne Heggtviet (Winner of an Olympic Gold Medal.) A variety of gifts, posters and books are available on their website.

What They Have
The displays contain several photographs from the museum’s huge archive of 6000 photographs, some dating as far back as 1880. The museum is proud to have in store skis over 150 years old, various types of poles, racing bibs, outfits, and more.
