The park is a picnicker’s paradise, with tables scattered on the grass amidst mature trees that offer plenty of shade on hot sunny days. There are two play structures and a swing set for children to play on.
At Britannia Park we find Britannia Beach which has a lifeguard on duty from the third week of June through Labour Day. There are changing rooms and public washrooms, as well as a canteen-bistro that sells hot dogs, fries, ice cream and the like, along with delicious and healthy choices such as wraps. Also at Britannia Park there is a secondary small access area reserved for windsurfing, so bring your gear and enjoy a great day out on the water. The West Ottawa Tennis Club also makes its home in Britannia Park.
Folks Seem to Like It
The third weekend of every August, the park gets taken over by the Ottawa Folk Festival. Four days of live music, by artists from Ottawa, Canada, and around the world are a great way to cap off the summer. There are main stage performances every evening and some smaller stages showcasing lesser-known performers during the daytime. The Festival also includes a craft fair, with local and regional artisans selling everything from handmade jewellery to leather goods.
Get on Your Bike and Go
The park, which is nestled between Carling Avenue and the river, is easily accessible on Ottawa’s bike path system. There is also OC Transpo bus service close by.
