Coffee With a Conscience
Bridgehead, a coffee house with several locations in Ottawa, has made coffee their personal crusade to help both people and the environment. By selling fairly traded organic coffee, Bridgehead's customers can help support farmers in underdeveloped countries through the purchase of their morning cup of joe. Bridgehead's loyal patrons, including those who travel from outside of Ottawa to buy the beans, will tell you it is the best-tasting coffee in the city.

Helping Out Farmers
Bridgehead's coffee is grown by co-operatives of small-scale farmers from all over the world. It pays these farmers three times the average world price for their beans. In a market where the low price of coffee is forcing some growers to leave their land, Bridgehead gives a fair share to the farmers they buy from.

Shade-Grown = Great Coffee
Most people think that organically grown food is of poorer quality than food grown with chemicals. But Bridgehead proves this isn't the case. The coffee sold here is shade-grown in higher elevations, which equals a better-tasting bean. Some of the 14 varieties available include East Timorese and Sumatran.

Coffee in All Sizes
You can buy coffee by the pound, the half-pound, quarter pound or the cup. Brewed medium and dark roasted coffee is available every day in small, medium, large and extra large sizes. French-pressed coffee, which has a more velvety texture, is also available, as is decaf. Most locations also now use a clover machine.

Anyone for Tea?
For people who don't drink coffee, Bridgehead carries 16 kinds of organically grown loose tea. Flavours include orange pekoe, chamomile, and green tea with lemongrass. Soups and baked goods, prepared mainly in-house, are available, as well as sandwiches.Worldly Aura
Bridgehead's ambience reflects is the origins of its coffee. The walls are warm and earth-toned, in orange, chocolate, and mustardy hues. World music is the soundtrack of choice, and patrons can stretch out on banquette seating. Whether you enjoy your coffee in this lovely atmosphere, or get your java to go, Bridgehead's a place where you can feel good about where your money is going.
