As well it has played host to many performances, artists residencies and public talks and has produced many catalogues and brochures to show off the talents of the artists. As part of a national network of artists run centres, the main goal of Axe Neo-7 is to promote artistic inquiry and awareness of contemporary visual arts. This is achieved through specific projects that bring together people from the Ottawa area, as well as national and international artists. The gallery aims to be a forum for communication, as well as promoting ideas and information, for both artists and the general public. Anyone can become a member of the gallery and that allows them voting rights on the board.
How it Works
Funded by grants from many sources, including the Canadian Council for the Arts and many private sources, Axe Neo-7 is run by artists and provides a visual forum for people who might not otherwise have access. Every 12-18 months the Board of the gallery calls for submissions either in a general sense or with a specific theme in mind. Artists are welcome to make submissions in virtually any medium. These might include painting, sculpture and even performance pieces. Three large exhibition spaces provide plenty of space for variety and an opportunity to showcase many different talents.
Live and Breath Art
A special residency program allows three artists to come and live and work at the gallery to showcase their talents. One space is dedicated to a Canadian Aboriginal artist, one to artists from Barcelona and the third available spot is dedicated to an artists who will create their work in the gallery so people can come and see its progression and development from beginning to end.
