Tapas in the Capital
This restaurant is one of only a handful in the entire Ottawa area to offer diners an extensive selection of ‘tapas’ – a Spanish word for medium-sized appetizers that are usually ordered in two’s or three’s to give your meal a little bit of variety. Even the generous wine and sherry list is entirely Spanish. Opened in 2003, this quaint eatery has only 18 tables available (plus 10 seats at the bar), and while this may mean waiting to be seated, it also provides a cozy ambiance in which to enjoy your Spanish-style meal. They only accept reservations within the first hour of opening if you have a small party and absolutely need one.
Historic Setting
Housed in an historic 19th-century home that has been converted into a restaurant, the 222 maintains a sense of rustic hominess that is reflected in both its layout and its décor. Separated into a dining hall and a semi-circular bar area, the restaurant boasts a choice of more than 15 tapas including popular items like spicy mussels, asparagus vinaigrette, garlic shrimp and Mediterranean squid. But tapas aren’t the only thing on the menu at the 222; diners can also enjoy a full-sized meal of anything from chicken to a variety of seafood.

Besides the regular menu of tapas, several daily specials which include soup and salad are also offered. The dessert menu is a mouth-watering selection of artistic creations made with only the finest ingredients – real cream, sweet and decadent chocolates and fresh fruits.
