Profile

The Skinny
Take a historic neighborhood, add dozens of different venues, stir in performers from around the world, throw in a few hundred thousand audience members and let it grow over 11 days. The result: one Fringe Festival. The Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival hits the streets of Old Strathcona for 11 days of theatrical merriment. From noon to midnight daily, performers from around the globe and around the corner will entertain audiences with song, dance, drama, comedy, and everything in between. Thousands of people pack the various Fringe venues daily, making Old Strathcona a see and be seen neighborhood.

The Draw
At the Fringe, anything theatrical can and literally does happen. Venues include skating rinks, playgrounds, bars, theatres and parks. It is an "unjuried, uncensored presentation of theatre" that can range from the silly to profound and everywhere in between. Ground zero for the Fringe is a two-block complex between 103 and 104 Streets from 83 Avenue to 85 Avenue. Here is where everything a Fringer needs is at hand: performance listings, box office, a review board, food vendors, beer tent, souvenir shack, and much more. This is where the Fringe programs, the indispensable guide to all things Fringe, can be bought; buy one and keep it close.
